River Festival
July 27th, 2019
The annual Piscataquis River Festival is the major public event of the year for Guilford as well as surrounding communities. It draws residents, former residents, students, alumni, and visitors from everywhere to our downtown and park areas.
For 2019:
Timber Tina will be our guest at this years’ River Festival with three great shows throughout the afternoon!
Festival History:
Ongoing since 2004, it grew out of a sense of pride in our town and its resources, the Piscataquis River in particular, and from a need to celebrate that pride no matter how trying the times may be. It initially served to pull groups, clubs, individuals, and the population of the entire area together in a festive atmosphere where worries could wait for another day! Since then, it continues to be a joyous occasion where friends meet, former acquaintances are renewed, old stories are remembered and retold, and everyone enjoys the sights and sounds of a wonderful parade, varied offerings from both food and craft vendors, and musical performances from well known professional musicians.
Traditional events such as the Duck Race, Classic Car Cruise-In, Pie Eating contest, and many others happen each year, and new ideas are tried and tested, keeping the program fresh and vibrant. 2019 promises further improvement with an influx of new volunteers and ideas. Our theme for the year has been chosen: “Got Wood?”. It will tie in with the area’s many businesses and families working within the woods business and will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the town’s largest employer, Hardwood Products Company.
Plan to make a day of it and be sure to stay around for what has been heralded as the “best fireworks display in the area” beginning as soon as it gets dark!
If you are interested in having a booth for your crafts or food items, please contact the town office.
